Mr. Doug Campbell

On Monday, May 2nd, Doug Campbell gained his wings. John Douglas Campbell was born on October 19, 1968 to Joe & Wanda Ayers Campbell in Guntersville, Alabama. Doug, like his father, was caring man-evident by his involvement in his family, community, and church. Doug was the husband to Melinda; the father to Emily Catherine and Sarah Elizabeth; son of Wanda Bright (Sonny); step-father to Chelsea and Corey; step-grandfather to Finnick James and Isaac McKennan; brother to Brandy and Jennifer; and his granddogs, Charlotte and Sammy, can’t be forgotten. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Joe Campbell; grandmothers, Inez Ayers and Odessa Campbell; and grandfathers, John Ayers, Jr. and Carter Campbell. Doug was a true servant. From his youth as an Eagle Scout to his time as a volunteer firefighter to his 2 terms as a councilman for the town of Grant, Doug left an impact on many many lives in his community. A graduate of KDS DAR School, Doug was a member of the Jr. High State Champion basketball team and was on the State Champion runner up teams his junior and senior years. An avid sports fan from the very beginning, Doug carried his love of sports into coaching his daughters’ teams all throughout their young lives. Aside from coaching, he managed to stay in the loop on all things sports by listening to the sports talk radio programs, making sure to keep others up to date also. While he kept up with different teams, he made sure to also know about his Crimson Tide. An avid outdoorsman, Doug was able to take a hobby for most and integrate it into a successful career. For many years, he served as a fishing guide on Lake Guntersville, even giving a weekly fishing update on Lake Guntersville for Bass Pro Shops. He was able to join his love for hunting and fishing with his keen sense for business as he owned and operated Waterfront Grocery and Tackle for 23 years. After much success with Waterfront, Doug put his great personality to work by joining the sales team at Cabelas, winning Outfitter of the Year in his first year. Beginning as a salesman, he received many promotions, and was promoted to General Sales Manager in the marine department for Cabelas last week. A true “people person”, he was able to use his networking skills and his “smile that would light up a room” to be a success. He truly never met a stranger. Aside from all those things, Doug was a family man and devoted church member. He was always involved in anything his daughters were involved in. Even with all his involvement, he made time to call his girls (his wife, his mom, and his daughters) every day at the same time. He also managed to work in time for Temple Run and Space Invaders-a champ in both. Doug was an active member of the Grant First Baptist Church all of his life. He was not only active in church, but also made sure to take time daily to read his Bible at home or wherever he was. A service celebrating his life will be held at Grant Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 2 p.m. Dr. Chuck Conley and Dr. Steve Stanfield, his current and previous pastor, will officiate. Afterwards, burial will be in the Free Home Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Arrangements Entrusted to Grant Memorial Chapel
