Mrs. Nancy Stubblefield Franks

Nancy Ann Stubblefield Franks of Grant, Alabama passed away at her home on Thursday, August 21, 2025-surrounded by her family and friends. She was 85 years old. Nancy, along with her late husband Doyle Franks, had three children, Jennifer Franks, Douglas Franks (Kim), and Gregory Franks (Shannon); grandchildren, Racheal Franks, Laura Moore (Adam), Jason Douglas, Colleen Cross (James), Hunter Franks (Jenni), Robert Douglas, Caroline Franks, and Courtney Douglas; great grandchildren, Laci Moore, Anna Moore, Hudson Franks, Nevaeh Douglas, Hayston Franks, Kayson Douglas, Maurice Douglas and Jacob Cross. All her family is from Grant and the surrounding area. She also has one surviving sister, Margaret Bellomy of Scottsboro and sisters-in-law, Toni Stubblefield and Katheleen Stubblefield. Nancy has a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by many special friends including Donald Watson and Margaret Gross. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father; Arbel and Gladys Stubblefield; brothers AR Stubblefield, Ben Stubblefield, Jeff Stubblefield (Helen), and Leon Stubblefield (Reginda); sister, Rosie Barnes (Don); and great grandson Noah Ryan Moore. Nancy graduated from Guntersville High School and had great memories of her school years. For their senior trip the class went to Washington DC and saw all the sites. Afterwards Nancy always enjoyed attending their high school reunions. Nancy retired from Redstone Arsenal where she was a Procurement Analyst with over 35 years of federal service. She worked in building 4488 and saw numerous famous people-astronauts, two presidents (Kennedy and George Bush Sr.) and Dr. Wernher von Braun. She was on a different floor from Dr. Von Braun, but had a few conservations with him. He gave her a few wooden rockets he had and a signed picture. Nancy enjoyed traveling; she has been to New York City, Niagara Falls, Canada, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, and the Hoover Dam. Nancy always enjoyed summer beach vacations to Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island, Panama City Beach, Gatlinburg, and Walt Disney World. During one of her doctors’ appointments, she visited the original Christmas Story house in Cleveland Ohio with her sons and daughter. Nancy enjoyed gardening, canning food, making jams and jellies, baking cakes, and working in her flower garden. Nancy also hosted cards games with her family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were big holidays for her; she always made big spreads of food and had all of her family over. Nancy was known for her pound cakes that was passed down from her mother. Nancy will always be remembered as a caring and loving mother, friend, and sister; she will be missed. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Grant Memorial Chapel with Mark Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in Free Home Cemetery.
